A complete Quran Tafseer course takes you through the whole Book of Allah, from Surah Al-Fatihah to Surah An-Nas, with the meaning of every passage explained. Many sisters have recited the Quran many times and studied one or two Surahs in detail, yet have never gone through all of it with understanding. This guide is for them.
Below we explain what a complete Quran Tafseer covers, why studying the whole Quran is different from studying selected Surahs, how a two-year plan works and how to stay consistent until the end.
At Al-Ashraf Academy, the new Complete Quran Tafseer Course is taught in Urdu by Zahra Batool, twice a week. It is for females only and is open to students worldwide.

What Is a Complete Quran Tafseer?
Tafseer is the detailed explanation of the Quran's verses: what the words mean, when and why a passage was revealed, and what guidance it gives. A complete Quran Tafseer applies this to the entire Quran rather than to a single Surah.
The Quran has 114 Surahs, arranged in 30 Juz (Paras), with more than 6,200 verses. It was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) over about 23 years. A complete Tafseer course moves through all of it, so that by the end you have studied every Surah, not only the well-known ones.
Allah describes the Quran as the Book in which there is no doubt, a guidance for those who are mindful of Him (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:2). To take that guidance fully, we need to understand all of it.
Why Study the Whole Quran, Not Only Selected Surahs?
A single-Surah course is an excellent start. But the Quran is one message, and some things only become clear when you study all of it:
- You see the full picture. Beliefs, worship, family life, character and the Hereafter are spread across many Surahs. Studying all of them shows how they fit together.
- Verses explain each other. A subject mentioned briefly in one Surah is often explained in more detail in another.
- You meet every Prophet's story. The stories of the Prophets are told in different Surahs, each time with a different lesson.
- Your recitation changes. When you know what each passage means, your daily recitation and your Salah become more focused.
- You can guide your home. A mother or elder sister who has studied the whole Quran can answer her family's questions with confidence.
Allah asks in the Quran whether people will not reflect on it (Surah Muhammad 47:24), and tells us that He has made the Quran easy to remember and take lessons from (Surah Al-Qamar 54:17). A complete Quran Tafseer is one way of answering that call.
What You Study in a Complete Quran Tafseer
The Surahs differ in length and subject, but the same areas of study run through the whole course:
| Area | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Verse-by-verse Tafseer | The meaning of each passage, explained in Urdu |
| Background and context | When and why the verses were revealed |
| Stories of the Prophets | The lessons in the stories told across the Quran |
| Islamic beliefs | Belief in Allah, the Prophets, the Hereafter and other core beliefs |
| Fiqh rulings | Guidance on worship, family matters and fair dealings |
| Application | How to act on what you learn in everyday life |
Surahs revealed in Makkah mostly build faith: belief in Allah, the Hereafter and the message of the Prophets. Surahs revealed in Madinah give more detailed guidance for worship, family and community life. Studying both gives a balanced understanding of the religion.

7 Tips to Complete a Two-Year Tafseer Course
- Renew your intention. Study to understand the Quran and act on it, and remind yourself of this often.
- Fix your two class times. Treat them as appointments that cannot be moved.
- Keep one notebook for the whole course. Write the main lesson of each passage in your own words.
- Revise every week. A short weekly revision keeps earlier Surahs fresh.
- Do not stop if you miss a class. Ask what you missed, catch up and continue.
- Act on one lesson at a time. Choose one teaching and practise it at home.
- Make dua. Ask Allah for steadfastness and for knowledge that benefits.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
"Whoever follows a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise." — Sahih Muslim 2699
